HISTORY OF ATATURK PAVILION

Ataturk Pavilion was built as a summer pavilion by Konstantin Kabayanitis in a small pine grove on the ridge of Soğuksu dominating Trabzon in the early 19th century. The four-storey building with the Western Renaissance influences was built out of stone and built in an Art Nouveau style with its elegant decorations and curves. The colorful flowers in the garden, surrounded by a beautiful landscape architecture, further enhance the beautiful structure. Konstantin Kabayanitis is subject to forced migration in accordance with the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923 and goes to his own country, namely Greece.

Ataturk Pavilion is a symbol of the city. It’s located in south-west on the hill of Soğuksu. The pavilion was built by a Greek named Konstantin Kabayanidis in 1903 and became the headquarters of the Russians during the occupation of 1916-1918. In the bedroom, there are flags that symbolize the Turkish states in history with a bed, a study table and a map that Atatürk had laid.

After the proclamation of the Republic, the property of the pavilion has been turned into a treasure and was given to him during his visit to Trabzon on September 15, 1924. During his visits to Trabzon in 1930 and 1937, Atatürk stayed at the Ataturk Pavilion and wrote a part of his will. After the death of Atatürk, the Municipality of Trabzon nationalized the pavilion and decided to open the Atatürk pavilion from 1964 to the Atatürk Museum. Atatürk’s objects and photographs are on display. The small hall on the right is equipped with photographs of Atatürk’s life and visits to Trabzon. In the adjoining room there are sofas and armchairs where Atatürk rests. The other room is furnished as a dining hall. In the museum, furniture, porcelain, carpets, etc. belong to the end of 19th century and 20th century. There are 344 ethnographic paintings consisting of paintings belonging to Atatürk and Atatürk. On the third floor of the pavilion, there is a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, a study hall allocated to Atatürk.
